Enhance student success with LMS grade passback for interactive activities
Interested? We'd love to support you with this new Pressbooks feature!
Pressbooks allows you to embed interactive activities throughout your book, using a simple tool called H5P. With Pressbooks Results, students' scores on gradable H5P activities automatically record in the learning management system (LMS) gradebook. Instructors using this feature say grade passback encourages students to spend time working through course materials. They can teach differently informed by learning data.

Learning science research provides strong causal evidence for the "doer effect," the phenomenon that student outcomes improve as learners complete more online interactive practice activities. Pressbooks Results empowers instructors to engage the "doer effect" in their classrooms by combining online practice activities (created with H5P) with the incentive of giving gradebook credit for effort spent mastering these activities.
Pressbooks Results users tell us:
Students have greater motivation to spend time with learning materials.
Students appreciate etextbooks with interactive learning activities that test their knowledge and provide immediate feedback about their learning progress
Instructors find it useful to monitor who’s doing the reading and who isn’t
Instructors gain greater insight about how to intervene to support learning
Pressbooks Results works through LTI integration between the Pressbooks Platform and your LMS. Pressbooks' LTI plug-in supports grade passback and other benefits of LTI integration: user account creation and authentication, deep linking, and a seamless experience using Pressbooks content inside the LMS.
Your LMS administrator can assist with the simple process of configuring LTI integration. This section of our Network Manager Guide explains how.
Beginning in January 2025, Pressbooks Results and LTI integration are standard features available to all Enterprise Network clients. For Shared Networks, clients on unlimited plans and Premium Buy-in members may activate the LTI 1.3 Integration to use Pressbooks Results

Yes. In cloned books, H5P activities are copied over into the new book. They can be edited and adapted in the cloned book without affecting the original (source) book's activities.
Yes, multiple instructors can use Pressbooks Results with the same book in different courses. The only caveat is that when sharing a book, the grading scheme used for each chapter must be the same for everyone. This includes which grade to record (e.g. average / best attempt / first attempt) and which graded H5P activities send scores to the LMS gradebook.
Although they need to use the same grading scheme, they can still make other adjustments in their individual LMS courses (such as which assignments to include, which order to present them in, how much each chapter will be worth in the gradebook, and how each graded chapter will be weighted relative to other assignments). Instructors may also bring additional materials into their LMS courses, within whatever guidelines are set by their departments.
Instructors only need to create a separate copy of the book if they want to select different activities for grading or use a different grading scheme for the chapters.
